Can I Run a Business on Bolt?

Yes. Bolt.new supports full-stack app development with native authentication, multiple deployment targets (Bolt Cloud, Netlify, Vercel, Cloudflare), and you own 100% of the generated code. Over 1 million websites have been built on Bolt. The platform is framework-agnostic, so you can build with React, Vue, Next.js, or any other popular framework.

Why this matters

Running a business requires more than building an app — it requires reliability, payment processing, user management, and the confidence that your platform will not disappear. Bolt addresses most of these with V2 upgrades, code ownership, and flexible deployment options.

What's at stake

Choosing to build a business on Bolt and then discovering it cannot handle your needs wastes time. But not building because you are unsure wastes more. Bolt gives you a fast path to market — and the code export to migrate if needed.

In detail.

What Bolt Provides for Business

Full-Stack Development

Bolt generates complete applications — frontend, backend, database, and authentication — using standard frameworks. React, Vue, Next.js, Astro, Svelte, and more. Your app is not locked into a proprietary framework.

Native Authentication (V2)

Bolt V2 includes built-in authentication with email/password, email verification, and leaked password detection. For basic user management, you do not need an external auth provider. For advanced needs (OAuth, social login, MFA), integrate Supabase Auth or Auth0.

Multiple Deployment Options

Deploy to Bolt Cloud for simplicity, or to Netlify, Vercel, or Cloudflare for more control. This flexibility means you are not locked into a single hosting provider — you can choose based on your business needs.

Code Ownership and Export

You own all generated code and can push to GitHub at any time. This means if Bolt does not scale with your business, you take your code and move to any development environment.

What Bolt Does Not Provide

Built-In Payment Processing

Bolt does not have a native Stripe integration like Lovable or Replit. You can build payment flows, but it requires more manual setup — creating webhook handlers, managing subscription state, and configuring the Stripe Dashboard.

Guaranteed Uptime SLAs

Bolt Cloud does not publish uptime SLAs for standard plans. For business-critical applications, deploying to Vercel or Netlify with their enterprise SLAs may be more appropriate.

Token Cost Predictability

Bolt uses a token-based pricing model. Complex iterations can consume tokens quickly, making costs hard to predict during active development. Once deployed, your app runs independently without consuming Bolt tokens.

The Practical Path

Start on Bolt — build your MVP fast with any framework you prefer. Stay on Bolt Cloud if simplicity matters more than advanced hosting features. Deploy to Vercel/Netlify if you need custom domains, edge functions, or enterprise SLAs. Export to GitHub if you outgrow AI-assisted development.

Frequently asked questions.

Bolt Cloud provides enterprise-grade backend infrastructure with hosting, databases, and integrations. For early-stage businesses, it is reliable enough. For businesses requiring guaranteed uptime, deploy to Vercel or Netlify with their enterprise SLAs instead.

Integrate Stripe manually by creating checkout endpoints, webhook handlers, and subscription management logic. This requires more setup than Lovable or Replit, but gives you full control. Store your Stripe secret key in Project Settings and access it through Edge Functions.

On paid plans, you can remove Bolt branding and use a custom domain. Your deployed app is a standard web application — users cannot tell it was built with AI unless you tell them.

Bolt tokens are consumed during development, not when serving users. Once deployed, your costs are your hosting provider fees (Bolt Cloud, Netlify, or Vercel), database costs, and any third-party service fees. Development costs depend on how actively you are iterating.
